Ever Rising Boot Camps...

While boot camps can be fun and challenging, they may not accomplish what you are looking for or what your body really needs. The truth is, most people are in no shape to be attending a boot camp, in fact, I often tell my clients, "you need to train in order to do the boot camp!" If you have been off your game, added a few pounds of fat, lost a few pounds of muscle or suffered from even a slight injury due to something as common as stress, attending a boot camp could do you a lot more harm than good.

At Duffy Fitness, we always suggest you start your training program with a thorough full body postural and biomechanical evaluation to determine what imbalances you currently have. If you are living in a crocked state, and begin an aggressive work out program, injuries will occur. It's just a matter of time. Let's face it, our bodies put up with a lot of abuse, poor diets, too little sleep, alcohol, toxins in the air, water and food, and sedentary life styles with lots and lots of stress. Throw a boot camp on top of all that and it might just be the straw that broke the camels back.

At Duffy Fitness, we are dedicated to getting you well and we don't believe that includes yelling in your ear while you tear up your body competing with some other poor soul who is two breaths away from a heart attack..

Fitness in America...

I thought I'd write my first blog on fitness in America .With a 67% obesity rate and a 92 % postural deficient rate, we have to know that our system has failed completely. You can't go anywhere and not see individuals struggling with weight issues and their posture is terrible. I feel their pain quite frankly because I ended with a walker and a horrible back issue because I was not observing my own imbalances, frankly until then, I was not trained too.

It's not anyone's fault because we have been sold a bill of goods from infomercials that have capitalized on our weaknesses. We were once told that running was the way, then sit-ups to reduce our abdominals. The 80s broke open the Aerobic myth and so on. What happened was that there was a huge influx of people trying to get in shape and our system simplified it by creating cure alls. We are all different, what makes anyone think that we can all train the same and have the same results. Guess what running, particularly longer distance can be counterproductive to your goals. Its funny the sprinters who run only 100 meters have less fat and more muscle than the long distance ones. Hmmmmmmmm We know that nutrition is more important in reducing body fat in the abdominals than does sit -ups which actually cause more back issues than I can count. Finally aerobics is a fraudulent system that peaks out over 4-6 weeks . The body adapts to the protocol and actually stores fat after that. I have treated several women that came to me with orthopedic issues that arose from aerobic training.

So we need to do what science teaches us. Get postural evaluations and biomechanical test to determine what you need to do to correct imbalances. In fact the three most important reasons you exercise is 1) Brain function 2) Nervous System efficiency 3) Correct Imbalances {you cant live crooked} then you can throw in cardio vascular and strength training...
